I would like to analyze one news “Christchurch shooting: Australia’s moment of hate speech reckoning”

from BBC.

First , when audience first see this news, they will think that this news is mostly related to the Christchurch shooting, because the headline put the “Christchurch shooting” at the front, which may lead the misunderstanding about the core information. So I would like to change the headline into “Argument of Australia’s about hate speech”, meanwhile I would add a subtitle “After the Christchurch shooting ” Change the title of the news  can emphasize that the main content of the article is about hate speech.

Second, regarding the main body of news, there are 6 subtitles to divide the content. The whole news has 6 images and a video inserted. The bottom right corner of the image shows the source, for example from the Facebook, but the video does not mention the source.

The news section refers to the content of the victim, and should add relevant news links to help the audience understand.

The news has a lot of space to introduce the “egg boy” thing, if adding a video link will be more intuitive, not just a blurred photo.

  1. Interesting observations Dan, and I agree about the egg boy video. However this is not a news story, but a news feature. News stories are brief – generally under 500 words, are about a new thing or event, and are generally balanced or objective. This story is recapping issues that are already being talked about widely and it provides background to the news including some comment. The title has been used to attract attention, so the publication has used the most search keywords first…and yes, that is slightly misleading but will generate more traffic than the alternative you suggest. What links should be added? Please give examples of what you would link to.

You need to set a feature image and give it a caption, copyright details and alt text. You also needed keyword tags for external search discovery. For this next assignment post don’t forget to:
    – Keep link phrases to 2-3 keywords
    – Make links open in new tabs
    – Use your precede (subheading field below post) to promote your post, rather than saying what is already in the category tag.
Also please make sure you fill in your blog profile biographical details and upload an image of yourself to elicit trust from your readers.
